Forest Stream is an illustration based branding project that is about traditional Chinese tea and Chinese landscape. The tea culture in China is very complex and has a long history, Chinese usually think drinking tea is a very relaxing thing, and prefer to do it slowly to spend more time enjoying tea. One thing that usually relates to tea in China is the landscape. Ancient Chinese think it is very elegant to view the landscape while drinking tea, and there is a lot of poetry talking about tea and landscape at the same time.
WILLOW SPRING
Flower Tea is a perfect drink for spring, it’s warm, tasty and fresh and could help people fight against spring fever. For the illustration, I use yellowish green as my tone and choose willow and swallow which is very common to see in spring.
LOTUS SUMMER
Chinese usually drink green tea in summer, green tea is usually made using fresh tea leaves, which is pleasantly cool and good at helping people against the burning heat in summer. I choose the green color because it matches with the green tea, and choose lotus and dragonfly which make the illustration more playful.
MAPLE AUTUMN
Oolong Tea is a special kind of tea which is a state in-between green tea and black tea. Drinking oolong tea will not make you feel cool or warm, which matches with the feeling of autumn. Maple leaves are like a symbol of autumn, everything goes orange, and leaves start to fall from trees. Rabbit is also a symbol of autumn in China, and there is an event called Mid-Autumn Festival, which is a festival for families to admire the moon while eating moon cake. There is also a story that there are some rabbits who live on the moon.
PLUM WINTER
Black tea is always the best drink for winter, while drinking black tea you will feel the warmth and energy inside your body. Usually, the winter is connected with white and cold colors, but to connect it with the black tea, I mix the white with a dark red tone. There are usually not many plants and animals in winter, but plum flowers and squirrels are something you can commonly see in winter.
